Size Matters

Forget less is more this season because size matters in spring 2012. Be bold and beautiful with this season’s hottest jewelry trend, a pair of knockout statement earrings. The bigger is definitely the better when it comes to these bright baubles, mod plastics, feathery shoulder-dusters, and jumbo chandeliers. Ear candy stole the shows at spring 2012 fashion week from Dolce & Gabbana, to Marni, Missoni, Prada, Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier, Emili Pucci and many more.

You can wear this trend right off the runway to any formal event or even to just add some fabulous to a more casual, everyday outfit. Surely all ears were listening at fashion week since statement earrings has even been spotted as an über cool street style trend for spring. Here are some photos of the look on the runway, backstage, and spotted on the street.

Posh

Beyond the over-sized sunglasses, gorgeous family, killer wardrobe, and the fact that she’s a Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham has also made a name for herself in the world of fashion. Her elegant and simple clothing line, Victoria Beckham has become a great success for a high fashion clientele. With Beckham’s clothes in high demand by not only the upper class, she has translated staples of her signature style into a new, affordable collection. Chic, easy-to-wear frocks in bright colours and whimsical prints are just some of the posh items in Beckham’s new line.

To celebrate the launch, Beckham teamed up with rising British director Quentin Jones, creating a short fashion film featuring models wearing the new Victoria, Victoria Beckham clothes while being manipulated by Jones’ creative collages and cutouts. Victoria, Victoria Beckham hits stores including Bergdorfs, Neimans, and net-a-porter.com next Saturday, February 4th.

Golden Globes Best Dressed

This years Golden Globe awards, hosted for the third time in a row by the hilarious Ricky Gervais brought out some amazing and not so amazing gowns. I decided to leave out pictures for the worst dressed for this event and save it for the Oscars but I can’t resist to name a few.

First off, since when did Rob Lowe hit up the Jersey Shore? Just because it’s the called the Golden Globes doesn’t mean your head should look like one.

Secondly, aside from Madonna’s unappreciative, too-good-for-everyone acceptance speech the bottom of her dress looked like a torn up garbage bag.

Thirdly, what is it with Glee cast girls and ornate, see through cut outs? Lea Michele showed way too much skin in that sparkly, silver number and Diana Agron’s new nickname should be Diana Dragon because it looked like someone breathed fire all over her dress.

Fourth, calling all fashion police! who let the Kelly Osborne out with spiky shoulders and lavender hair?! She’ll definitely be showing up on her own TV show on the worst dressed .

Lastly, I do greatly respect and admire my favourite female comedians Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Kristen Wiig but it wouldn’t kill them to get stylists for at least major award shows.

Now that that’s out of the way here are my top picks for best dressed women at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Rooney Mara looked gorgeous in this Nina Ricci cut out. She stayed true to herself with simple but striking hair and makeup.

Shailene Woodly looked beautiful in Marchesa reminiscent of Mila Kunis’ 2011 Oscar dress.

Modern Family’s Ariel Winter could not have looked more adorable in this age appropriate D&G tea length dress.

Salma Hayek elegantly showed off her curves in this art deco, beaded Gucci.

Emma Stone’s gorgeous purple and red Lanvin goes well with her once again red hair.

Claire Danes won a Golden Globe and a spot on everyone’s best dressed list with this stunning J. Mendel.

Giuliana Rancic looked better than half the stars she interviewed on the red carpet in this detailed Basil Soda.

Freida Pinto looking as pretty as ever in this simple Prada glammed up with a beautiful statement necklace.

Last but not least, Stacy Kiebler looking sexy in Valentino with an even sexier George Clooney on her arm.

Double Take

Upon first glance, pillow lipped Andrej Pejic is merely another gorgeous model of the moment. A six foot two, twenty year old, blond, blue-eyed Serbian-Croatian sounds like the ideal, almost impossible supermodel aesthetic. Pejic was scouted just before his seventeenth birthday while living in Australia where he and his family moved to in the year 2000. Confused by my use of male pronouns when you thought the description of this beautiful model was evidently a woman? Reason strikes for a double take the moment Pejic’s effeminate beauty becomes quickly overlooked when he speaks in a deep voiced, Australian accent.

Despite Andrej Pejic’s strikingly feminine good looks and Marilyn Monroe worthy beauty mark, this new modeling sensation is challenging the fashion world with his androgyny. With the startlingly androgynous features of sky-high cheek bones, thick eyebrows, and an intensely defined jaw line, it is evident how Pejic is so competent in modeling clothing for both men and women. In fact, he walked in both the men’s and women’s Jean-Paul Gaultier shows during Paris spring 2011 fashion week.

The controversy and concerns about sexuality confusion were only publicly expressed when Pejic was featured on the cover of the New York based magazine Dossier Journal with his shirt off and his long blond locks done up in curlers à la fifties housewife. Barnes & Noble covered the magazine in an opaque sleeve in their store to ensure people would not mistake the risque image for a topless woman. With Andrej Pejic’s ideal model body and facial features, this gender-bender should not be censored but simply celebrated for being so ironically, “imperfectly” perfect for the fashion world.

Yes he’s a man and yes the pictures below may seem weird but the moment you are able to overcome the unimportant aspect of his gender is when you will be able to see the real beauty of Andrej Pejic and embrace the beauty and freedom that the fashion industry has not only granted him but granted something  for the future relationship of fashion, androgyny and acceptance. Talk about a revolution in unisex clothing.

Girl, Interrupted

In honor of the upcoming new year and Winona Ryder’s two new movies premiering in 2012, here are some fabulous pictures of my favorite actress from over the years. The Girl, Interrupted actress’ upcoming movies are titled The Stare and Frankenweenie. If you’re a fan of Winona, Johnny Depp, Tim Burton or psychological thrillers I recommend the movies Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Girl, Interrupted, and Black Swan.

Back In Black

The undeniable strength of black makeup dates as far back as Cleopatra’s time. Black makeup on eye lids, fingertips, and even lips guarantees intense power. The “anti-pink,” Gothic colour is mysterious, dangerous and sexy. Although, the allure of black isn’t entirely dark. In moderation, black makeup can be immensely elegant. Try a smokey, black eye with a nude lip or dark lips with subtle eyes, or those classic, rebellious black nails. Be sure to emphasize only one feature at a time with black makeup because wearing too much can seem intentionally alienating and loose its effect. Paint on just a few streaks of black this season to stand out and make a dramatic statement with the upscale, fashionable colour.

To steer clear of the black, punk styles from the 80’s and 90’s, designer such as Yves Saint-Laurent and Chanel have revamped the look. Chanel when she came out with the best seller nail lacquer called Vamp, and Saint-Laurent when he sent his models down the runway with black lips as shiny as latex. Now even famous-for-his-Gothic-aesthetic, Gareth Pugh has collaborated with MAC cosmetics creating gorgeous new shades of black makeup. Give new life to the ironically neutral colour by modernizing it with different undertones, textures, shades, and shines.  It’s safe to say that this winter black is definitely back.

30 Rock

‘Tis the season to be in New York City!  Today, November 30th, marks the 79th annual Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Illuminated by 30,000 LED light on five miles of wire, the traditional Norway spruce is a holiday staple for the city.  Topping off the festive tree is a beautiful, Swarovski encrusted, crystal star. As tens of thousands of New Yorkers gather around Rockefeller Plaza to enjoy the tree lighting, the ceremony will also be broadcast live across the globe. Performances by an impressive lineup of celebrity guests will be held at the ceremony as well. Get ready for this years performances as in past years Aretha Franklin, Michael Buble, and Kylie Minogue and many more have graced the stage. Nothing marks the true start of the magical New York holiday season quite like the 30 Rock Christmas tree. If you’re lucky enough to live in NYC go watch it live or tune in tonight from 7-9pm.
