Golden Globes Best Dressed

This years Golden Globe awards, hosted for the third time in a row by the hilarious Ricky Gervais brought out some amazing and not so amazing gowns. I decided to leave out pictures for the worst dressed for this event and save it for the Oscars but I can’t resist to name a few.

First off, since when did Rob Lowe hit up the Jersey Shore? Just because it’s the called the Golden Globes doesn’t mean your head should look like one.

Secondly, aside from Madonna’s unappreciative, too-good-for-everyone acceptance speech the bottom of her dress looked like a torn up garbage bag.

Thirdly, what is it with Glee cast girls and ornate, see through cut outs? Lea Michele showed way too much skin in that sparkly, silver number and Diana Agron’s new nickname should be Diana Dragon because it looked like someone breathed fire all over her dress.

Fourth, calling all fashion police! who let the Kelly Osborne out with spiky shoulders and lavender hair?! She’ll definitely be showing up on her own TV show on the worst dressed .

Lastly, I do greatly respect and admire my favourite female comedians Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Kristen Wiig but it wouldn’t kill them to get stylists for at least major award shows.

Now that that’s out of the way here are my top picks for best dressed women at the 2012 Golden Globes.

Rooney Mara looked gorgeous in this Nina Ricci cut out. She stayed true to herself with simple but striking hair and makeup.

Shailene Woodly looked beautiful in Marchesa reminiscent of Mila Kunis’ 2011 Oscar dress.

Modern Family’s Ariel Winter could not have looked more adorable in this age appropriate D&G tea length dress.

Salma Hayek elegantly showed off her curves in this art deco, beaded Gucci.

Emma Stone’s gorgeous purple and red Lanvin goes well with her once again red hair.

Claire Danes won a Golden Globe and a spot on everyone’s best dressed list with this stunning J. Mendel.

Giuliana Rancic looked better than half the stars she interviewed on the red carpet in this detailed Basil Soda.

Freida Pinto looking as pretty as ever in this simple Prada glammed up with a beautiful statement necklace.

Last but not least, Stacy Kiebler looking sexy in Valentino with an even sexier George Clooney on her arm.

Performances by an impressive lineup of celebrity guests will be held at the ceremony as well. Get ready for this years performances as in past years Aretha Franklin, Michael Buble, and Kylie Minogue and many more have graced the stage. Raise A Little Hell

Last Saturday, October 1st, Toronto celebrated their annual arts night, Nuit Blanche, with free exhibitions all over the city. I attended this event as I do every year, however I actually planned my night as opposed to roaming the city’s streets, stumbling upon different installations. I first went to see a free Trooper concert which happened to be part of the Canada’s Walk of Fame Festival, not Nuit Blanche, which was really great. I lucked out getting a front row seat to watch these fabulous, old, British-Columbia born men played an hour and a half set of good old classic rock.

After the Trooper concert, my friends and I raised a little hell elsewhere down at the Tiff Bell Lightbox during a cabaret style, 80’s karaoke dance party. Excerpts from movies such as Dirty Dancing, Ferris Buellers Day Off , Flashdance, and a wide range of John Hughes classics were shown. Those were the two best major events of the night that I attended, although there were also interesting art installations all over the city. Some of which included interactive robots, pipes that shot fire, a huge sculpture made up of tiny sculptures, and a band repeatedly playing Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit for twelve hours straight. Nuit Blanche is a great night for art lovers and really just a great night to explore what Toronto’s nightlife has to offer. If you haven’t already been to Nuit Blanche I recommend checking out the exhibits on their website beforehand to ensure your Nuit Blanche experience is the best that it can be!
